Cannas are a family of beautiful, beginner friendly and easy to grow plants with beautiful large flowers. Famously known as canna lily, these plants attract hummingbirds with their colorful red flowers and wide banana like leaves, They are perennials, meaning they will live happily for many years. The canna lilies love a rich, moist, but well-draining soil and a full sun for optimum flowering. The rhizomes/bulbs will sprout in a couple of weeks and grow rapidly to flower in their first year itself. Do not plant the rhizomes/bulbs more than 2-3 inches deep. The waxy leaves protect them from almost all pests and they don’t require daily care. Water them thoroughly and keep the soil uniformly moist and fertilise them monthly for a healthy plant.
